Brooklands 1st VIII
continued from home page...
As a small independent school with just 300 pupils, Shiplake College
is often cast in the role of underdog.
In fact in some years the Eton Boat Club has more members than the
whole of this small school located in an idyllic position on the
banks of the River Thames. However, Shiplake has fanatical coaches
and a thriving parents' supporters club who do everything within
their power to help Shiplake compete with the great powers of school
rowing.

Reaching the final of the school eights competition at Nottingham
was an
impressive achievement; when Charlie Jenkins and Will Satch took
silver in
the National Schools Regatta pairs the next day it was an outstanding
achievement. Jenkins, is already a junior GB international, Satch
is
progressing through the trials and fellow 1st Vlll member Konstantin
Bosch
is a German international.

Brooklands
Executives sponsorship not only gives this small school the chance
to compete with the big boys it also provides an established route
for schoolboys to gain experience. For a small school it was remarkable
achievement to have Ben Hunt Davies in the gold medal winning Sydney
Olympic Vlll. The boys in the Brooklands boat look forward to gaining
more invaluable racing experience at Henley and hopefully creating
a few more ripples in the big pond of school rowing.
The sponsored boat is an Empacher. In rowing terms an Empacher is
the Ferrari of boats - there are only a limited number in existence
to date used by the top rowers.`
David
Jensen, Managing Director of Brooklands Executives commented "Shiplake
is a fine school with a great reputation. I am delighted we can
play a small part in driving these dedicated sportsmen towards achieving
their goal - it is what we aim to do with executives aiming high
in their careers, so there is plenty of synergy for us."
